Acidic food is harmful to our bodies. Citrus foods such as oranges, limes, and lemons can cause the Acidic food is harmful to our bodies. When acidic food is more included in our diet then it may worsen our body metabolism. Acidity is very common in people. The main symptoms of acidity are heartburn, epigastric pain, and nausea. People are taking antacids for acidity problems and some are taking antibodies remedies.

ACIDIC FOOD

1. CITRUS FRUITS

Citrus foods mainly contain vitamin C and which is a natural source of citric acid. Overuse of citric acid may cause inflammatory symptoms such as stiffness, abdomen pain, and swelling.

2. EGGS

Eggs are highly nutritious foods but they can lead to acidity once you start eating them regularly. People who suffer from gastric issues are always recommended to avoid egg yolks and eat egg whites.

3. RED MEAT

Red meat causes many problems in many people. Red meat causes heartburn in the majority of people. Heartburn is a condition in which burning pain occurs in the chest, causing burning pain. Red meat is rich in fat content and which causes digestion problems and sometime may result in stomach pain as well.

4. CAFFEINE

Caffeine can worsen the symptoms of acid reflux. Caffeinated food beverages increase the acidity of gastric secretion. Nowadays people are addicted to caffeine beverages like smoking due to daily life stress.

5. CHOCOLATE

Chocolate contains milk and dark chocolate. Both include caffeine and theobromine. Chocolate contains cocoa powder which is also acidic. Cocoa also increases serotonin. Cocoa also increases serotonin levels in the stomach. Chocolate causes stomach acid to rise up.

6. SPICY FOODS

Spicy foods include capsaicin, which may lead to delayed gastric emptying. Capsaicin slows down the process of digestion in the body. Thus, food stays longer inside the stomach due to improper digestion which results in worsening heartburn. Spicy foods are major acidic food. Moreover, spicy food contains high-fat content which digests very slowly as compared to other food items.

7. SOFT DRINKS

Refined sugar in soft drinks is bad for your health and it further causes acidity. Most soft drinks contain carbonic acid, citric acids, and phosphoric acid. Not only do soft drinks cause stomach fat but also damages human body parts such as teeth and bones.

8. ALCOHOL

Alcohol has an acidic character and drinking alcohol enhances the acidic problems. During alcohol, the stomach produces more acid than usual. Alcohols are major acidic food. After drinking it has been observed that many people observed heartburn. The alcohol which contains t-butanol is more acidic in nature. It’s better to avoid drinking alcohol regularly. People prefer alcohol hangover remedies after drinking.

9. LEGUMES AND BEANS

Legumes and beans are acid-forming foods and people need to eat ginger, garlic, or add the same while cooking. Legumes contain phytic acid which may adversely affect our bodies.

10. PROCESSED SNACKS

Processed snacks such as potato snacks, bacon, and ham are highly fatty and also may cause gastric emptying. Processed snacks are the common acidic food nowadays. The acid content in soft drinks increases the gastric acid volume. In this fast-food era, people are addicted to processed snacks because they are tasty and easily available in the market. But at the same time, we should be aware of which increases the acidity levels in our body.

TIPS TO REDUCE EFFECT OF ACIDIC FOOD

Eat low fat and high fiber diet

Avoid eating and drinking before 2 hours of bedtime.

Avoid wearing tight cloth

Elevate the heads of the bed slightly

Avoid the use of anticholinergic, which delay stomach emptying

Avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) that contain acetylsalicylic acid needs to be avoided

Take antacids and H2 receptors antagonists as per doctor’s order.
